Little Circus Design combines Madeleine Stamer's freelance illustration, traditional use of brush and ink, her limited edition prints, collaboration work, art pieces and all the good bits squeezed in between.
Part tomboy with a sprinkling of girlyness Madeleine struggled to enjoy school. However, she did relish day-dreaming, sculpting playdoh, dabbling with malleable objects, climbing trees, collecting organic specimens, drawing birds, talking to animals, trading swap cards, aspiring to draw like Dick Bruna and watching classic Ray Harryhausen movies which ultimately lead to her degree in Architectual Ceramics. Madeleine met her husband Karl during the 80's underground Melbourne writers scene. Karl is co-author of Kingsway which celebrates Melbourne's 'real deal old school' graffiti culture. He plays an integral part assisting Madeleine with the technical-ho-hum side of Little Circus Design as well as operating his very excellent giclee printing service Lantern Printing.
Madeleine is dead keen on all things Mexicana. She loves tempting objects that are nice to touch, she has a fondness for clay, loose feathers, natural history, skeletons, ink, traditional folk art, 70's design and kaleidoscope colours. Madeleine splits her time as a visual arts teacher as well as devoting herself to illustrating, exhibiting, blogging and working on various little circus projects and collaborations. Madeleine works from her home studio with her husband Karl and daughters Wilhelmina and Ada. They manage to squeeze into their semi run-down, part restored terrace located in Melbourne, Australia.
